Neotropical has been close-up this preparation and looks ready to break through after placing at Mornington when favourite. The 1000m trip suits, and she should be able to settle close enough from barrier seven. In a maiden without a standout, she looks a solid betting tip.

Race 2 – Leading Teams Maiden Plate (1200m)
Powering Away returned with a strong placing at Mildura and looks well placed to improve second-up. He has been racing consistently without winning, but this looks a suitable maiden and the 1200m trip should suit. He gets the nod in a race where Big Boy Bowie is the main danger.

Race 3 – Weir’s IGA + Liquor Donald Maiden Plate (1620m)
Zetheros was narrowly beaten at Stawell last start and draws perfectly in barrier one. He has placed in all runs this preparation and should get every chance stepping to 1620m. If he handles the Heavy 8, he looks the horse to beat.

Race 4 – Donald & District Community Bank Maiden Plate (2200m)
Phantom’s Chase was narrowly beaten at Echuca last start and looks suited rising to 2200m. He has been improving with racing and should be strong enough late in a staying maiden. This looks a good opportunity to break through.

Race 5 – Gilchrist & Co BM62 Handicap (2200m)
Jenny The Beaver looks value after a fair effort at Geelong and should appreciate this setup. She has been in solid form this preparation and the booking of Billy Egan is a positive. In an even staying race, she looks capable of improving sharply.

Maya’s Ace looks well placed in the sprint after winning at Cranbourne earlier this preparation. She draws low, has enough tactical speed and should get every chance on the heavy ground. With Meisho scratched, this looks a winnable race.

Zorro’s Flight resumes off a trial win and looks ready to run well fresh. The blinkers go on, and the draw gives him a chance to settle in a good spot. If he brings his best first-up form, he can take this out.
