R1 – Gallopers Sports Club Maiden Plate
Selection: Saturdays Girl – $4.40
Saturdays Girl keeps finding the line strongly and looks well placed again despite the maiden tag. She has produced sharp late splits in recent runs and Ryan Maloney sticks aboard. Arctic Bright has claims dropping into this grade, but Saturdays Girl gets another ideal chance to break through.
R2 – Become A BRC Member Maiden Plate
Selection: Switz – $2.60
Switz fought on strongly first-up at Warwick after looking the winner and should strip fitter here. The draw maps perfectly and this field looks slightly easier than what Girmay was set to face before scratching. Rosa Kiss is the danger fresh from a good gate.
R3 – Sky Racing Maiden Plate
Selection: Palmanova – $2.80
Palmanova looks one of the better bets on the card after an excellent second at Warwick Farm. She was held up at a key stage and still attacked the line strongly late. The Waterhouse and Bott stable placement looks ideal and she should get every chance from the draw.
R4 – Ladbrokes Stradbroke Calcutta BM78
Selection: Chillaxing – $3.40
Chillaxing was dominant at Ipswich and comes into this rock hard fit. The rise in grade is tougher, but he handles soft ground and gets conditions to suit again. The Irish has upside third-up, while Rattle And Hum is the knockout if returning to best form.
R5 – XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap
Selection: Better Not Slip – $5.50
Better Not Slip showed plenty in her first prep and resumes off a strong trial. The stable has given her time and she maps to get a soft run despite the awkward gate. She Ours has the stronger exposed form, but Better Not Slip appeals at the better value quote.
R6 – Mullins Lawyers BM78
Selection: Set To Shine – $7.00
Set To Shine resumes after a long spell but her Doomben record is outstanding. Multiple trials should have her ready and this looks a very winnable race if she returns near her best. Alpha Bravo and Lady Lucifer both have claims, but the value sits with the fresh mare.
R7 – Cricks Highway BM70
Selection: Sosino – $6.00
Sosino drops sharply in grade after competing in stronger Sydney races and gets every chance from barrier one. The first-up run should bring him on nicely and this looks a much more suitable setup. Pocketmoney will be charging late, while Falcon Of Malta can give a sight on speed.
R8 – Ladbrokes Mates Mode Class 2 Handicap
Selection: Automne Tree – $4.80
Automne Tree looked ready to win before being scratched last week and now gets another suitable race. The trial form was strong and Ryan Maloney is a key booking for the Waller yard. State Opera has class, but the barrier makes things tricky late in the day.
Best Bet: R3 – Palmanova ($2.80)
Plenty of competitive racing at Doomben with several smart types returning and a few proven wet-track runners set to improve sharply.
