Three rounds into NBL27 the championship market has already changed a lot. Sydney are the new favourites, Melbourne have drifted, and Tasmania and Perth have both firmed hard. Here is where it stands and where we see the value.

Championship odds

Prices as at 6 October, after Round 3.

TeamPrice
Sydney Kings$3.50
Melbourne United$4.50
Tasmania JackJumpers$6.00
Adelaide 36ers$7.00
Perth Wildcats$7.00
South East Melbourne Phoenix$10.00
New Zealand Breakers$15.00
Illawarra Hawks$34.00
Brisbane Bullets$34.00
Cairns Taipans$51.00

The biggest movers

  • Sydney Kings went from $4.50 to $3.50 after starting 3-0.
  • Melbourne United drifted from $3.25 to $4.50 after losses to Tasmania and Cairns.
  • Tasmania JackJumpers firmed from $10.00 to $6.00 after beating Melbourne and Brisbane.
  • Perth Wildcats shortened from $12.00 to $7.00.
  • New Zealand Breakers went from $21.00 to $15.00 after wins over Cairns and Adelaide.
  • Adelaide 36ers drifted from $4.20 to $7.00, and Brisbane Bullets doubled from $17.00 to $34.00 after a tough round.

Our best bet

New Zealand Breakers at $15.00. The Breakers are the defending champions and are still the seventh favourite. They have won their last two, beating Cairns and Adelaide, which is why they have already shortened from $21.00. For a team that knows how to win in the finals, $15.00 is a big price.

The solid option: Tasmania JackJumpers at $6.00. They have firmed after beating both Melbourne and Brisbane, and $6.00 is a fair price for a team in form.

Sydney at $3.50 is a fair price for the favourite, but it leaves very little value this early in the season.

How we’d play it

  • Value: a small stake on the Breakers at $15.00.
  • Safer: the JackJumpers at $6.00.
  • Wait and see: futures prices on the NBL move every round, so there is no rush on the favourites. We will update this page as the market changes.
