Goulburn has a seven-race country card on Tuesday, starting at 2:10pm (Sydney and Melbourne time). Most of the races are low-grade benchmark and maiden events, so form lines are thin and there are a few even races. Prices below were taken on Monday evening and will move.
Mindgames in Race 5 and Chemtrail in Race 6 are the runners we trust most. Prince Of Verona in the last is our headline bet. Lucsain is entered in Race 4 here and at Newcastle, so check where he runs before betting that race.
Race 1 - Goulburn Produce Benchmark 58 Handicap (1600m)
Selection: Astrogazer Current odds: $4.40
Astrogazer was run down late when third at Muswellbrook and should be handy from barrier one. Celestial Grace was strong late when third at Nowra and is the favourite, but she has more weight this time. Bulla Vinaka showed good speed when third at Canberra and is racing for a new stable. Cha Cha Cha was only three-quarters of a length off the winner here last time and suits an each-way bet.
Selections:
- Astrogazer - $4.40
- Celestial Grace - $3.30
- Cha Cha Cha - $4.40
- Bulla Vinaka - $7.50
Race 2 - Goulburn Express Freight Maiden Handicap (1600m)
Selection: In Circles Current odds: $3.20
In Circles has placed at every run this preparation, including a third at Hawkesbury last time. The wide draw is a worry, but he has the speed to work across. Frankie’s Boy was fifth at Newcastle and gets a good gate. Shocair was well beaten first up at Newcastle but should be fitter, and at $13 he is worth a small bet. Red Planet Bar is consistent and ran third here.
Selections:
- In Circles - $3.20
- Frankie’s Boy - $6.00
- Shocair - $13.00
- Red Planet Bar - $9.50
Race 3 - Kirk’s Bridge Farm Country Boosted Maiden Handicap (1200m)
Selection: Heroes’N’Villains Current odds: $2.90
Heroes’N’Villains resumes after a flat seventh at Gundagai and should be much better fresh. Hay Deer is the favourite on debut for Matthew Dale after a trial here in May, so the market will tell us how ready he is. Cape Ex also resumes and draws well to go forward. On The Fly was third over this track last time and is the place chance first up.
Selections:
- Heroes’N’Villains - $2.90
- Hay Deer - $2.25
- Cape Ex - $8.00
- On The Fly - $11.00
Race 4 - Divalls Earthmoving Maiden Plate (1100m)
Selection: Lucsain Current odds: $2.70
Lucsain only just missed on debut at Canberra and wears a tongue tie for the first time. He has early speed and would be hard to beat here, but he is also entered at Newcastle, where he is a much shorter price, so confirm he runs here first. If he goes to Newcastle, Mayweather is the each-way hope from barrier one at $21 after a sixth at Kembla Grange. Romancastle resumes after 34 weeks and is a place chance.
Selections:
- Lucsain - $2.70
- Mayweather - $21.00
- Romancastle - $10.00
- Bold Bucks - $13.00
Race 5 - Homebase Real Estate Class 1 Handicap (1400m)
Selection: Mindgames Current odds: $1.65
Mindgames won on debut at Wyong and then ran second in a Randwick trial on 25 September, which is good form for a Class 1 at Goulburn. He looks the class runner of the race. The price is short, so he is better in multis. Glenn’s Legacy was fifth here last time, gets back up in trip, and is the value alternative. Ole Miss and Dundeel Flyer are next.
Selections:
- Mindgames - $1.65
- Glenn’s Legacy - $6.00
- Ole Miss - $5.50
- Dundeel Flyer - $6.00
Race 6 - Goulburn Carpet Court Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap (1100m)
Selection: Chemtrail Current odds: $2.00
Chemtrail was narrowly beaten over this track last time and finishes his races strongly. He has more weight, but he still looks the one to beat. Must Be Sain was disappointing here last time but the Brodie Loy and Natalie Jarvis combination makes him the main danger. Zoutempus resumes after a fifth here and should go forward. Vereeva drew the rail and was third at Nowra.
Selections:
- Chemtrail - $2.00
- Must Be Sain - $3.90
- Zoutempus - $7.00
- Vereeva - $9.00
Race 7 - Gordon Pub Punters Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m)
Selection: Prince Of Verona Current odds: $3.50
Prince Of Verona won well at Bathurst at only his second start and is likely to keep improving. He is our headline bet. The wide gate is the only concern. Big Opinion was fifth at Wagga and is the danger, though he is up in weight. Gem Tycoon wears a tongue tie for the first time after a fifth at Canberra. Slay Queen has the speed to lead from a wide draw.
Selections:
- Prince Of Verona - $3.50
- Big Opinion - $4.20
- Slay Queen - $7.50
- Gem Tycoon - $11.00
