Mildura has a seven-race country card on Tuesday, starting at 1:30pm (Sydney and Melbourne time). The field is a mix of Victorian and South Australian horses, mostly in maidens and Benchmark 62 races. Prices below were taken on Monday evening and will move.

The Cable Guy in Race 5 is the runner we trust most, chasing a third win in a row. Share The Music in the last is the other strong chance, and Inhabit in Race 3 is the value play.

Race 1 - Melbourne Cup Packages Now On Sale Maiden Plate (1400m)

Selection: Back Up Barbie Current odds: $3.20

Back Up Barbie was running on when fourth at Echuca and looks ready to win a weak maiden. Peace Seeker is the same price after a sixth in the same race at Echuca, so there is not much between them. Apocalypse should improve a lot on his debut run at Ballarat. Message Bank resumes after 26 weeks and has a big price for a horse that was fourth at Stawell.

Selections:

  1. Back Up Barbie - $3.20
  2. Peace Seeker - $3.20
  3. Apocalypse - $4.40
  4. Message Bank - $13.00

Race 2 - Mildura Gateway Maiden Plate (1200m)

Selection: King Koruna Current odds: $3.10

King Koruna was eighth at Sale but that run can be forgiven, and he should be handy. White Pointer is a debutant from Michael Hickmott’s stable who trialled third at Morphettville Parks on 28 September, and the market rates him. Gamadale Paddy resumes for his second start and should improve on a ninth at Warrnambool. Singapore Splash was fifth at Wodonga and needs luck from a wide gate.

Selections:

  1. King Koruna - $3.10
  2. White Pointer - $3.80
  3. Gamadale Paddy - $5.50
  4. Singapore Splash - $14.00

Race 3 - Mildura Motor Holdings Benchmark 62 Handicap (1000m)

Selection: Inhabit Current odds: $4.00

Marilyn’s Edge won narrowly at Moe, draws the rail and is the favourite. We prefer Inhabit at a better price. He ran third at Morphettville, which is stronger form than this, and comes back from a short let-up. Royal Turf drops in class after a poor run at Murray Bridge and finishes quickly. Holy Racket has been in harder races and is a roughie from barrier one.

Selections:

  1. Inhabit - $4.00
  2. Marilyn’s Edge - $3.00
  3. Royal Turf - $4.60
  4. Holy Racket - $8.50

Race 4 - Mildura & District Real Estate Maiden Plate (1000m)

Selection: Cracked It Current odds: $3.30

Cracked It resumes after 27 weeks. His sixth at Avoca last time can be forgiven, and he gets a good draw. Ilovediamonds should be on the speed from barrier three after a sixth at Bairnsdale and is the main danger. Gold Bijoux should improve on his debut at Ballarat. Bold Starlet is having his first run for a new trainer and is a long shot.

Selections:

  1. Cracked It - $3.30
  2. Ilovediamonds - $5.00
  3. Gold Bijoux - $12.00
  4. Bold Starlet - $21.00

Race 5 - The Jade Benham Maiden Plate / Benchmark 62 (1400m)

Selection: The Cable Guy Current odds: $2.50

The Cable Guy has won his last two and finished strongly to win over this track last time. He draws barrier one and is our best bet of the day. Causeweluvadelaide resumes but went close first up last preparation, so he is the main danger. Limbering gets a big weight drop and Polly Brewster rides, which makes him a good place bet. Drunken Sailor is a long shot.

Selections:

  1. The Cable Guy - $2.50
  2. Causeweluvadelaide - $6.00
  3. Limbering - $10.00
  4. Drunken Sailor - $14.00

Race 6 - Ausloans Mildura Benchmark 62 Handicap (1900m)

Selection: Callistemon Current odds: $4.60

An open staying race. Callistemon was fifth at Swan Hill and is strong late. All four of his wins have been on soft tracks, so he improves if there is rain. Kikorangi was fourth at Morphettville against stronger horses and has the speed to cross from a wide gate. Verona Rupes is the favourite from barrier one. Exalted Fire should be better than his ninth at Gawler.

Selections:

  1. Callistemon - $4.60
  2. Kikorangi - $3.80
  3. Verona Rupes - $3.80
  4. Exalted Fire - $5.00

Race 7 - Bet365 Position Payout Benchmark 62 Handicap (1200m)

Selection: Share The Music Current odds: $3.10

Share The Music won easily on the Ballarat synthetic and should be fitter again. He looks the one to beat. Reoffer was third at Balaklava, drops in weight and should be on the speed. Where’s My Sock will lead or sit close. Grouse Mountain was seventh at Seymour but has early speed and is the roughie at a big price.

Selections:

  1. Share The Music - $3.10
  2. Reoffer - $10.00
  3. Where’s My Sock - $8.00
  4. Grouse Mountain - $19.00
