The Meadows runs twelve races on Saturday night, starting at 6:37pm. Most of the card is over 525m, with two races over 600m, including the Restricted Win Final in Race 6. There have been a few scratchings, so check the final fields before you bet.
Our strongest bet of the night is Steal The Stage in the Race 6 final. Neil The Seal in Race 2 is also a short-priced favourite we rate highly. For value, Magic Loki in Race 8 is an each-way play at a double-figure price.
Race 2 - Grade 7 (525m)
Selection: Neil The Seal (3) Current odds: $1.60
Neil The Seal ran under 30 seconds here recently and is a class above most of this field. The price is short, but box three gives a good chance to find the front early. Wah Cedar has improved with each run and is the main danger. Box five is empty, which should help the dogs drawn either side of it.
Selections:
- Neil The Seal (3) - $1.60
- Wah Cedar (7) - $7.50
- Saffron Monsoon (6) - $10.00
- Weblec Rachael (4) - $9.00
Race 5 - Grade 5 (525m)
Selection: Cousin Sal (7) Current odds: $2.60
Cousin Sal was only just beaten here last week, and that run was in fast time. If Cousin Sal crosses to the lead from box seven, she will be hard to run down. Mepunga Willow is quick early and has a perfect draw in box one, so this could come down to which of the two leads. Paw Toronto has been scratched.
Selections:
- Cousin Sal (7) - $2.60
- Mepunga Willow (1) - $2.70
- Elite One (6) - $7.00
- Outsides (4) - $11.00
Race 6 - Restricted Win Final (600m)
Selection: Steal The Stage (8) Current odds: $1.80
This is our best bet of the night. Steal The Stage ran 34.33 in his heat, which was the fastest of the heat winners, and has a strong early burst from box eight. Aston Machine is the most likely dog to make the favourite work early. Meaningful likes this track but box six is a problem. Broken Halo and Flying Rogue have both been scratched.
Selections:
- Steal The Stage (8) - $1.80
- Aston Machine (5) - $6.00
- Meaningful (6) - $6.00
- Lektra Skip (1) - $14.00
Race 7 - Mixed 4/5 (525m)
Selection: Dash Parr (1) Current odds: $2.30
Dash Parr won from box one here two starts ago in 29.92, and has the same draw again. Happy Dad is very fast with room, so he is the danger from the outside. Scott Sigma should be close to the lead early. This looks like a two-dog race between Dash Parr and Happy Dad.
Selections:
- Dash Parr (1) - $2.30
- Happy Dad (8) - $2.40
- Scott Sigma (2) - $8.50
- Quinlee Bale (3) - $9.00
Race 8 - Mixed 4/5 (600m)
Selection: Magic Loki (3) Current odds: $10.00
This is a speculative each-way play rather than a strong bet. Magic Loki is very consistent and can get to the rail early from box three. Two of the main chances, Mepunga Phantom and Belair Ethyl, have been scratched, which makes this race more open. Caco Magic holds the track record over 600m and won last start, so is the one to beat.
Selections:
- Magic Loki (3) - $10.00
- Caco Magic (4) - $3.80
- Bandit Swagger (1) - $5.00
- Victory Barry (7) - $7.50
Race 11 - Grade 5 (525m)
Selection: Par Excellence (4) Current odds: $1.90
Par Excellence won here last start and should lead early again. With a clear break, the others will struggle to catch up. Paw Yaris is getting back to best form and is the main danger. Prince Valhalla is strong but would prefer a wider draw than box one.
Selections:
- Par Excellence (4) - $1.90
- Paw Yaris (7) - $4.50
- Prince Valhalla (1) - $7.00
- Universe (6) - $10.00
