Seymour hosts its Cup meeting on Sunday with ten races and a Good 4 track. Several of the bigger races have runners dropping back from city grade, so check class as well as recent form.

Melek in Race 4 is our strongest bet of the day. Al Duca in the Seymour Cup and Educated in Race 8 are both solid, and Salamanca Six in Race 6 is the value play at a big price. Open Fire has been scratched from Race 1.

Race 1 - Maiden Plate (1600m)

Selection: More Foxie Current odds: $4.80

More Foxie has placed at both starts and was only 1.25 lengths from the winner at Pakenham last time. The step up to 1600m should suit, and the stable is in form. Sentaloa has also placed at both starts and adds blinkers. Handsome Missile is a little shorter in the market and should get a good run from barrier 2.

Selections:

  1. More Foxie - $4.80
  2. Sentaloa - $8.00
  3. Handsome Missile - $4.60
  4. Brilliant Bull Ant - $7.00

Race 2 - Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1200m)

Selection: Big Lap Current odds: $7.00

Big Lap was only just beaten on debut at Geelong and should improve at his second start. That run is the best form in a race with very few proven horses. Carnevale resumes and drops in grade after racing at Caulfield. Lomu has placed twice and is a big price.

Selections:

  1. Big Lap - $7.00
  2. Carnevale - $5.00
  3. Lomu - $21.00
  4. Action Point - $5.50

Race 3 - Maiden Plate (1200m)

Selection: North Dakota Current odds: $3.40

North Dakota resumes after 23 weeks but was second at Caulfield Heath before the spell and has trialled since. He also comes back in trip, which should suit. Rough Enuff placed first-up last time in and is the each-way option. Quemax is a debutant from a strong stable.

Selections:

  1. North Dakota - $3.40
  2. Rough Enuff - $10.00
  3. Quemax - $5.00
  4. Lei - $10.00

Race 4 - BM66 Handicap (2000m)

Selection: Melek Current odds: $2.30

Melek is our best bet of the day. He was beaten a neck at Ballarat last start, has run well every time this campaign and finishes his races off strongly. Razanne should be close to the lead from barrier 1 and drops in weight. Placentia Bay has the speed to cross from a wide draw. Melek is short, but he is the clear standout.

Selections:

  1. Melek - $2.30
  2. Razanne - $9.00
  3. Placentia Bay - $10.00
  4. Terrortorian - $5.00

Race 5 - BM66 Handicap (2000m)

Selection: Covert Thinking Current odds: $4.00

Covert Thinking was third at Cranbourne last start and drops back to a country race. The extra weight is the only concern. Yahoo Bar comes from Hong Kong form, where he was third second-up, and should be close to the speed. Navy Heart was well beaten at Bendigo but is better than that run.

Selections:

  1. Covert Thinking - $4.00
  2. Yahoo Bar - $7.50
  3. Navy Heart - $7.50
  4. Only Opera - $6.50

Race 6 - BM62 Handicap (1000m)

Selection: Salamanca Six Current odds: $14.00

This is our value play. Salamanca Six won first-up this campaign and gets blinkers for the first time. He was beaten at Flemington last start, but that was much harder than this race. Parcae won her only start at Mornington and is the one to beat. The Shyster won by more than four lengths at Tatura. Back Salamanca Six each-way.

Selections:

  1. Salamanca Six - $14.00
  2. Parcae - $3.40
  3. The Shyster - $3.90
  4. Myhro’s Ruler - $4.20

Race 7 - Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap (1200m)

Selection: Lathlain Current odds: $10.00

Lathlain won first-up at Seymour and returns after a short break with a good barrier. That makes her good each-way value. Bajaria is the favourite after winning by almost four lengths at Kilmore and is the main danger. Tsarine has won twice in a row at Mornington.

Selections:

  1. Lathlain - $10.00
  2. Bajaria - $2.80
  3. Tsarine - $5.00
  4. Princess Que - $11.00

Race 8 - BM74 Handicap (1100m)

Selection: Educated Current odds: $3.80

Educated was narrowly beaten as favourite at Sandown and has been placing in city races. Celine Gaudray rides, and Educated has enough speed to overcome a wide draw. Farcited also drops back to a country race. Yolo has won his last two at Ballarat and should get a soft run from barrier 1.

Selections:

  1. Educated - $3.80
  2. Farcited - $8.50
  3. Electric Elvis - $7.50
  4. Yolo - $5.00

Race 9 - Seymour Cup (1600m)

Selection: Al Duca Current odds: $5.50

Al Duca has won twice in city races this campaign and was second at Ballarat last start. He drops in weight, and Mark Zahra rides. The wide draw is the only concern. Storm Leopard is favourite and drops in class after a poor run at Flemington, so he is the main danger. Lim’s Saltoro placed at Caulfield at long odds and runs without blinkers.

Selections:

  1. Al Duca - $5.50
  2. Storm Leopard - $5.00
  3. Lim’s Saltoro - $7.50
  4. Justadeel - $11.00

Race 10 - BM70 Handicap (1400m)

Selection: Savoyard Current odds: $2.80

Savoyard finished just behind the winner at Caulfield and drops back to a country race. The weight rise is the main concern. Wetumpka won first-up at Sale and has won every time she has started favourite, so this is close between the two. Chicago Blues is after a third straight win and is worth an each-way bet at a big price.

Selections:

  1. Savoyard - $2.80
  2. Wetumpka - $2.30
  3. Chicago Blues - $21.00
  4. Boltsaver - $41.00
