Port Macquarie Horse Racing Analysis for Monday, May 18th


Port Macquarie hosts a strong 9-race Heavy 9 program with plenty of wet-track specialists and competitive country racing throughout the day. Open betting races, progressive types and several key chances from leading NSW stables create plenty of value opportunities across the card from start to finish.

R1 – 1206m Flower Hotels Country Boosted Maiden Hcp

ADEQUATE EZE (1) resumes after a solid first campaign where he never finished far away and looks well placed fresh. The heavy track shouldn’t pose an issue and his recent work suggests he’s ready to return with a big run. RIPS LAW (3) strips fitter after his fresh effort at this track and can improve sharply from a better draw. APPARENTLY (8) is better than the latest run suggests and gets conditions to suit here, while SUNSTAZ (7) has been around the mark this prep and appeals as a genuine place chance.

THUNDER LIGHTS (7) has been racing consistently this preparation and looks ready to break through after another strong placing at Wyong. Drawn to get every chance and handles wet ground. AMAZIGH TORQUE (8) can bounce back from the Sunshine Coast run and had been racing well prior. PRINCE OF WANTS (5) continues to improve with racing and shapes as a major player again, while CHERRY DREAM (16) hit the line nicely last start and can be competitive despite the wide draw.

LOVE YOU ANYWAY (7) has been knocking on the door all prep and looks to get the perfect opportunity to finally break through after another close second at Muswellbrook. RIVER BISCOTTE (4) resumes with strong trial and previous form around this level reads well. KIWI HARMONY (14) has shown ability in tougher races and can improve for the new stable, while debutant MORTARMAN (2) has shown enough at the trials to warrant respect on debut.

R4 – 1206m Char Bar Catering Class 2 Handicap

TOO HOT TO TORQUE (3) looked unlucky not to win first up at Ballina and with natural improvement second-up looks the runner they all have to beat. STORM MERCHANT (4) has early speed, maps perfectly from the inside alley and should be right in the finish again. DUBALENE (9) continues to race honestly and will be strong late, while DARK STRATUM (1) can improve sharply back into easier company.

R5 – 1206m John Oxley Motors Class 2 Handicap

LOVECATS (5) was impressive winning fresh at the Sunshine Coast and looks capable of going on with it here despite the rise in grade. DIVA ROUGE (2) has put together back-to-back wins in dominant fashion and will make her own luck up on speed. PATRIOTICINTENTION (6) continues to race consistently and gets weight relief, while THE MAGIC MAN (3) is building nicely this campaign and can figure again.

SALMA’S STAR (8) drops back sharply in grade and should appreciate the easier assignment from a favourable draw. JEWELS STATEMENT (2) gets key gear changes and can improve significantly on recent efforts. MAGNOLIA JEWEL (10) is capable of bouncing back quickly on the short turnaround, while THE LUPERCAL (4) gets weight relief and maps to get every chance on speed.

DUSAN (4) continues to race well this prep and should get a soft run from the inside draw. THE PICCOLINO (6) has early speed and can stick on for a long way, while DEHERO (7) resumes with gear changes and appeals as an each-way knockout.

THE COMANCHE (10) can improve stepping back onto wet ground, while SHELLEY’S LOOKOUT (12) is capable of running into the placings at odds.

DEEP STEALTH (7) has shown enough ability to be competitive first up, while SHE’S A WILD ONE (12) can improve into the exotics.
