Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday 27th May Best Bets

Canterbury’s Heavy 9 card looks set for a strong day of racing, with wet-track form likely to be the key factor across all six races. There appears to be good betting value throughout the meeting, with a mix of proven mud runners, in-form favourites and a few roughies capable of surprising in the testing conditions.

Canterbury – Heavy 8

R1 – Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1100m)

Main Selection: 6. Miss Scandal – $2.10

Odds subject to change.

Miss Scandal can improve sharply after a forgive run on debut in Group company. She has trialled well leading into this and maps to settle prominently on a heavy track that should favour horses near the speed. Celestial Charm has looked sharp in trials, while Girl About Town can improve second-up.

Other chances:

R2 – Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1250m)

Main Selection: 8. Royal Chic – $18.00

Odds subject to change.

Royal Chic shapes as a genuine value play in wet conditions. Her best form has come on rain-affected tracks and she gets in with a light weight from a handy map. Artgirl brings fitness and consistency, while Snitzel Miss and Incremental both have enough form to feature.

Other chances:

R3 – Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1900m)

Main Selection: 4. The Iron Star – $8.00

The Iron Star hit the line strongly at Hawkesbury and looks suited rising to 1900m on another wet track. The race lacks obvious speed, which could suit So D’Oro if left alone in front. Wounder gets blinkers on and Ivy Legend has claims with James McDonald aboard.

Skycatcher looks the standout best bet on the card. He charged home first-up at Wyong and now gets conditions to suit stepping up in distance second-up. Wet-track form from New Zealand reads strongly and he maps to get every chance. Louie’s Legacy and Format are the main dangers.

Other chances:

R6 – The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1250m)

Main Selection: 2. The Extreme Cat – $7.50

Odds subject to change.

The Extreme Cat drops slightly in grade and should appreciate the heavy conditions. The likely tempo suits his finishing style and the claim helps. Concordia Wind has strong fresh form, while Tenderize and Show County both appeal as value hopes in an open race.
